  • Duration: 12 months, Renewable
  • Duty station: 100% of presence in the ICOMOS-Jordan building.
  • Contract type: Full time

Under the direct supervision of the project manager and in coordination with ICOMOS- Jordan Coordinator, the Project Assistant shall provide technical and administrative assistance and backstopping to the project manager on all project activities such as research, trainings, assistance and capacity building programs, workshops and meetings, as well as technical and financial reporting. In addition, support general ICOMOS-Jordan activities within the approval from line manager (Project Manager) and in coordination with ICOMOS-Jordan coordinator.

Principle Responsibility

Provide technical and administrative assistance and backstopping to the project manager on all project activities of EAMENA: Mitigating Conflict and Climate Change Risks Through Digital Heritage Capacity Building such as research, trainings, assistance and capacity building programmes, workshops and meetings, as well as technical and financial reporting.

Conceptual and technical duties

  1. To ensure that, efficient technical and administrative support is provided to the above-mentioned project, assistance in capacity building, workshops and trainings are provided to the targeted groups, communities and any concerned institutions.
  2. To ensure that, efficient support is provided to the project manager in the implementation of the ICOMOS-Jordan projects portfolio related to the above-mentioned project.
  3. Assist in prepare, review and update work plans governing the organization and management of the project activities in order to achieve anticipated outputs and outcomes.
  4. Support and backstopping the documentation of traditional practices related to water
  5. Support the project manager in develop in Coordination with the EAMENA team and conduct a survey and questionnaires to identify the possible impact of climate change on the community’s livelihood in or around heritage places and the relationship between the community and heritage
  6. Coordinate with the EAMENA team the development of a toolkit with different tools, each would be designed to address a specific issue, including:
    • Understanding the community profile,
    • Understanding the distinctive cultural practices,
    • Connecting cultural practices with specific environmental factors and climate change impact.
  7. Facilitate the development of maps connecting cultural heritage places with Climate Change scenarios to provide a general record of the possible climate change affecting cultural heritage sites.
  8. Lead the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) process of the project,
  9. Support the development and maintain related institutions database for ICOMOS-Jordan and individual experts.
  10. Contribute to the publication productions, translation and other related documentation and brief statement as required by the programme.
  11. Support on the needed public relation materials for the project (e.g., brochures, posters, newsletters …etc.)
  12. Support ICOMOS general activities within approval from the line manager (Project Manager) and in coordination with ICOMOS coordinator.

Contacts and Key Relationships

The Project assistant point reports directly to the Project Manager, with close coordination with ICOMOS Coordinator, while and collaborating with other team members, Finance, Admin and the communication teams.

The projects assistant is responsible for supporting the project manager in preparing work plans, budgets, and progress reports, ensuring quality, deadlines, and submission to the donors of activities related to the EAMENA: Mitigating Conflict and Climate Change Risks Through Digital Heritage, Capacity Building, and Consolidation.

Qualifications requirements: education, language, experience and competencies.

Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a subject related to Heritage, Culture, Tourism.

Experience: Minimum of 1 years of experience in related field.

Languages: Excellent knowledge of writer and spoken Arabic and very good knowledge of written and spoken English.

  • Researching skills, and ability to develop researching methodologies.
  • Willingness to frequently travel within the project area and Jordan, sometimes at short notice;
    Knowledge of general programme procedures and practices. Proven ability to use MS Office (word and excel) and email. Proven typing abilities.
  • Ability to reply in an appropriate manner to work related inquiries.
  • Ability to work well with colleagues.
  • Ability to evaluate correspondence and inquiries for best course of action.
  • Ability to deal with government and local community with tact and diplomacy.

Working Conditions

The Projects Assistant will be working fulltime based in ICOMOS-Jordan premises and in the field (as required) and as advised by the project manager.
