The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) has successfully concluded a series of specialized online sessions dedicated exclusively to members of the Arab National Committees. The sessions were organized in line with the priorities of the ICOMOS Arab Group, aiming to enhance cooperation, exchange expertise, and strengthen knowledge related to World Heritage inscription and nomination file preparation.<\/span><\/p>

The series included three key sessions covering essential World Heritage processes:
\u2022\u00a0Nominations \u2013 6 October 2025<\/b>
\u2022\u00a0Preliminary Assessment \u2013 7 October 2025<\/b>
\u2022\u00a0Monitoring Processes \u2013 28 October 2025<\/b><\/p>

Held via\u00a0Zoom<\/i>\u00a0in English, the sessions witnessed active participation from \u00a0the Arab region, reflecting a strong commitment to capacity-building and advancing shared World Heritage objectives.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

With the generous support of the International Council on Monuments and Sites \u2013 ICOMOS Jordan, students Wurood Al-Bshtawii and Sajeda Al-Momani from the Faculty of Archaeology at Yarmouk University participated in the 16th Conference on the History and Archaeology of Jordan, held in Athens, Greece, under the patronage of HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal, from 22\u201326 of September2025.<\/span><\/p>

The two students presented research papers during the conference: the first focused on the Dead Sea Scrolls, while the second addressed Safaitic inscriptions\u2014a scholarly contribution that highlighted the active role of Jordanian students on the international academic stage.<\/p>

Their participation was made possible through the generous support of ICOMOS Jordan, chaired by HRH Princess Dana Firas, in recognition of their academic efforts and in encouragement of young researchers in the fields of archaeology and cultural heritage. Royal Jordanian Airlines also kindly provided the travel tickets for both students, to whom sincere thanks are extended for this invaluable support.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Under the patronage and participation of Her Royal Highness Princess Dana Firas, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Heritage and President of the International Council on Monuments and Sites \u2013 Jordan (ICOMOS Jordan), and in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Firas bin Raad, the evaluation event for the participating projects in the \u201cHeritage Hackathon\u201d was held on Thursday, 14 August, at the Hussein Technical University (HTU) campus. The event was organized in collaboration with HTU and the British Institute in Amman (Council for British Research in the Levant \u2013 CBRL).<\/p>

In her remarks, HRH Princess Dana Firas emphasized the importance of the partnership between ICOMOS Jordan and national academic institutions in enhancing the protection of cultural heritage and engaging the creative potential of youth. She highlighted ICOMOS as a leading international organization in setting standards and producing knowledge across diverse heritage-related fields, while offering young people opportunities to take on leadership roles. She also noted that the hackathon provides a multidisciplinary platform for designing digital solutions to safeguard heritage sites, stressing that heritage represents identity, collective memory, and shared human values, and that its protection is an ethical responsibility that requires the participation of all. She concluded by thanking the organizers and participants.<\/p>

The hackathon brought together outstanding students from various disciplines. The event received enthusiastic participation, with over 70 teams registering, and 38 teams submitting their projects in accordance with the hackathon requirements. These projects were initially reviewed by an evaluation committee consisting of:<\/p>
